Coastal Oil ( COIL ) directors and administrators have foreseen the takeover and merger of BN in the near future with some major players and smaller lines in the local area and have to protect COIL interests between Prairie City and Bayside. Doing this will insure that oil and other contracted goods are transported unimpeded and on time. Extensive discussions were held between directors and shareholders in COIL's corportate office. Outcome of said discussions is the creation of Coastal Overland Corporation which will DBA Coastal Overland Railroad: CORR. Coastal Overland Corporation offices will be based at the edge of Reality with maintenance facilities in Reality's Bairwood yard.

Mission
CORR to negociate for then buy existing GN, NP and SP&S properties and contracts in the surrounding area between Prairie City and Bayside that are deemed important for CORR to operate. After profitability and serviceability inspections, CORR will build new or upgrade existing, sell or scrap; depending. New or upgraded items will be leased back with contracted running rights on CORR's trackage.

Maintenance
The heritage companies that have smaller yards for classification and maintenance facilities will be down-graded in the maintenance aspect allowing for light repairs only. Existing roundhouse and supporting physical plant will be inspected, upgraded if necessary. If deemed unserviceable they will be torn down, leased or scrapped; cost depending. The Bayview facility will handle all heavy repair and could require the equipment to travel to it.

Track and Row
CORR will maintain all trackage and RoW it owns up to the outside of 'Yard Limits' of the heritage roads. Redundant trackage will be inspected using the best serviceable and better maintained lessor grade routes. New trackage will be established where the above can not be met. Unserviceable trackage will be torn out and RoW cleaned up then possibly leased for walking and/or bike trails.
Note that some Branch Lines are impossible to re-align because of deep canyon's or tunnels. In this case, train length and power will be limited.

Power
All power will be inspected. If serviceable or near serviceable it is to be upgraded and used. Wood and coal fired steam will be retro-fitted with oil burners if possible. Unserviceable power is scrapped or sold.
Because some of the Branch Lines connected have steep grades, and smaller facilities, power choices will be limited.

Buildings
Determinations will be made after inspection and serviceability is complete. Towns with multiple smaller lines will have the most serviceable areas kept, upgrading where necessary to CORR's standards. If unserviceable, new will be built, else torn down and scrapped, leased or sold.

Foreign
Contracts acquired are for: Union Pacific, Spokane International, Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul and Minneapolis, Pacific Great Eastern, Canadian National and Canadian Pacific. Note that there are a few more roads that have running rights, although there is not any legal documents other than the contracts for business along CORR's RoW. Also note that BN has paid running rights on CORR trackage as there is not any reciprocal contracts with BN other than power lease. There are multiple car exchange locations for the foreign roads that can not run power to their customers.

Trackside Devices
All of the heritage road signal systems will be inspected. Some of these signal systems are not inline with CORR's signal type(s) nor do they use CORR's aspect and indications. If this is the case, those signals will be replaced with new. New signals will utilize CORR's version of CTC to keep things simple for the existing operators, engineers and employee's. Other devices are upgraded or replaced after inspection and serviceability determinations.

Errata
Branch routes have limits due to track grades and/or degrees of curvature. 2-6-6-2, 2-10-2, SD40's and greater are prohibited on the following branches: SP&S Junction to Reality, GN Junction to Prairietown. The grades also prohibit train lengths of greater than 15 to 20 cars ( depending ) not including power and caboose. Coastal's survey of those areas showed that there are no better alignments because of deep canyons, fast flowing rivers and/or large streams.
Passenger operations will continue as established due to winter in Reality and Pairietown. Winter sometimes prohibits travel over public highways which delay the Mail. Both stations have room for RPO cars of which all passenger equipment still need to be turned for the return trip.
